Together you wander through Paris. Enjoying the iconic buildings, museums and terraces. Carrying a coffee and a fresh croissant, you marvel at the jumble of cars in the city. However, you also see huge investments in building bike lanes. You see this development all over Europe; cars are making way for bikes. Since you started working for Cortina, you only have an eye for bicycles anyway, or actually for bicycle mobility solutions in general. As business development manager, you inspire, encourage and motivate teams to develop new business and connect online and offline. The business unit manager complimented you last week: "Through your strong strategic vision and your international and digital mindset, you truly take our commercial organisation to the next level. Glad you've joined our Bikes business unit." Suddenly you are tapped on your shoulder: "Look, there goes a Cortina bike!" Feeling immensely proud, you follow the cyclist until he turns the corner. Also in France, you start seeing Cortina more and more on the streets. You smile from ear to ear.
 

First, we will introduce ourselves:
Kruitbosch, nice to meet you! We are a Zwolle-based family business with a rich history. Starting almost 70 years ago as a local wholesaler, we now strive for sustainable and innovative bicycle mobility solutions in the urban areas of Europe. In addition to products and concepts, we offer tailor-made solutions for 3,500 bicycle dealers (in the Benelux and beyond) and consumers. We do so with 250 satisfied employees from our offices in Zwolle and Lier (B). Through our Bikes business unit, we offer bikes and e-bikes of our Cortina brand. And with Hellorider we run a leasing platform for employers and consumers who want to give form and substance to their bicycle mobility and reduction of CO2 emissions by commuting. 

Criteria

Who are we looking for?
Cortina is a well-known Dutch bike brand with a track record to be proud of. Now it's time to spread our wings and conquer Europe. We do this with a strong brand, a great product portfolio and a young and ambitious team. To achieve this, we need to transform our commercial function into an omnichannel, data-driven and proactive machine. We are looking for someone to give direction and drive this change! 
 

As Business Development Manager:

  • You will be responsible for integral sales funnel steering to further drive conversion.
  • Take our retail and account management to the next level. More digital and data-driven. 
  • Together with our international team, you develop effective market-entry strategies and growth plans for new European markets. 
  • You are responsible for business development and stimulate the development of new propositions, large account plans and alternative business models.
  • Drive teams to improve customer journeys and make them fully aligned with the relevant target group and market. 

Naturally, we are primarily looking for a Business Development manager who is a perfect match for us in terms of character, motivation and vision. In addition, our ideal candidate is in all likelihood:

  •  Someone with academic working and thinking level and at least 10 years of experience in commerce and/or business development. In addition, e-commerce experience and commercial experience with a physical consumer product should not be lacking. 
  • A driven person with a strong strategic vision and an international mindset. You are fluent in English (French and/or German is an advantage). 
  • A real expert in digitising the commercial process and someone who can make colleagues think from big to small. Solve a problem first and then dive into the details.  
  • An entrepreneurial person with lean start-up/design-thinking skills. You encourage creativity - this is where your coaching and development skills come in handy.

Who do you work with and for?
Our organisation consists of three business units (Bikes, Parts and Lease) supported by three support units (HR, Digital and Finance). Your position is part of the Bikes business unit and together with Paul (Supply Chain & Sourcing) and Katherine (Product Development & Quality) you will form the Core Team Bikes. Together, you bear the P&L responsibility for this business unit. You lead five team leaders.

What do you do during a working day?

  • You start the week with a stand-up with the Core Team Bikes. Here, you look back at the results achieved the previous week, discuss issues and opportunities. 
  • You have a call with one of the large accounts about the next step in the digital cooperation. 
  • You discuss the latest customer insights with the Marketing team leader and explore opportunities for business growth together. 
  • You brainstorm with the project team about 'feeding the funnel'. From lead to offer to customer. Reaching our customer and delivering the best possible value and experience for customers is most important to you.

Procedure after you have applied:
1.    You will be called by our recruiter Natascha Zoer for a 15-minute interview. This will include the following items:

  • Specific question from our Director of Development.
  • Terms of employment, availability and further matters.
  • Planning and follow-up procedure.

2.    GMA
After the 15-minute telephone conversation, you will be sent a GMA (cognitive ability test) by e-mail. It will take about 30 minutes to complete. We do this because a GMA is a robust predictor of job performance and learning ability to handle complex work. 

3.    Feedback on CV/phone interview/GMA
Within a few days of making the GMA, Natascha will contact you with information on how to proceed. This will explain why we are inviting you for a follow-up or why not. We understand that a 15-minute interview may seem very short to form a good opinion. If you feel that the reasoning is not (entirely) correct, we will ask you to discuss this with us. We give feedback based on three factors: CV (hard requirements), GMA score and answers given at 15-minute interview.
